Most courses are held in our Academy. We are also happy to bring the course to your salon if you have the numbers (normally 5 minimum ) one of the team will come to your salon train all your team members in an environment that is comfortable to them, There will be a travel charge on top of the per candidate fee of £0.35 pence per mile.

This course takes your basic skills to a higher level. It is suitable for those who have been out of the industry for a while or did an NVQ but never went on to work in a salon. Your achievements will help assist you in the current marketplace. A skills assessment will be used to see which level of refresher is most relevant to you.

Designed for those who feel out of touch with the hairdressing industry, providing
in-depth training to redevelop your skills and add new ones to support your growth in the industry.

A basic introduction giving you grounding in the basic skills needed for a career in hairdressing. Attendees are normally of school age’ Speak to your careers
adviser to see if your school supports this programme.

This is the foundation training needed to work as a hairdresser in the UK and Europe. The course covers most of the basic skills needed to work as a hairdresser at a basic level. The Cheynes training version of the NVQ Level Two programme contains around 60% more training and assessments than in a Basic NVQ. May be fully government funded if you are of school leaving age or part-funded if older.

Loans can now be obtained by candidates aged 19+ under set government funding rules. Loans are the same as University type Loans in that they are repaid after you start earning about a set amount. Loans are means tested and can be used for NVQ level 2 & 3 only Fees are set at £3,350.00 for both NVQ 2 & 3.(2017) We can not arrange loans for you but are very happy to advise on best course of action.

To get government funding for an NVQ in the UK you are required to have an GCSE grade C / 4 or above or Equivalent. If you don’t you may need to complete a Functional Skills course as well as your NVQ. There is a charge to complete these, if you are unsure we will be able to help and advise.

NVQ Level 3 (this course is currently under goverment review)

Aimed at young hairdressers who have completed Level Two who have been launched onto the salon floor and who now wish to build a clientele. The course promotes independent learning and can be completed on a full or part-time basis.

Traineeships

A pre-apprenticeship programme for unqualified people. Lasting from six weeks
to six months, the programme invokes the Government’s ‘Preparation For Work’ as a work experience element.

Basic Cutting Skills

This one-day course is suitable for any qualified or training hairdresser looking to improve their basic cutting skills. Areas covered include one-length, graduation and layers, and the differences between these and when to use them.
Mannequin heads are used.

Intermediate Cutting Skills

This course is for any qualified hairdresser requiring more from their basic skill set, supporting the technique chosen. It covers geometry, technique, suitability, face-shapes and cutting mechanics. It is a one-day course completed on mannequins.

Advanced Cutting Skills

Add to your skill set by taking this course on precision cutting disconnections
and combination geometry. This is a one-day course completed on mannequins.

Razor Cutting

A complete razor course. Add a new set of skills or refresh old ones. Working with open and guarded blades working on length and texture. This is a one-day course completed on mannequins.

Perming Skills

Revisit your perming skills with this one-day Basic course covering basic to fashion winds; create different textures; work with different curl patterns. This is a one day course using mannequins.

Colour Placement Workshop

Whether you’re using foiling or block colour, it’s about where you put it. This course covers placement and result; square/ round/ triangle and vertical/ horizontal/ diagonal.

Face Shapes Workshop

Working with the cutting system or not a good ground knowledge of face shapes and how to apply them into your work is vital. what works best , how to counter subdue and enhance.

Academy In-house Hairdressing Programme

A one-year full-time or two-year part-time course covering ALL aspects of the hairdressing industry. On completion of this course, you will be a fully functioning hairdresser ready to work on any salon floor with confidence. Must be done in conjunction with an NVQ program ether after before or during.

Wet Shaving Course

A complete one-day course to get you able to offer hot and cold towel wet shaves. The course uses live models.

Threading Workshop

Half-day threading training and half-day threading practice. Learn three different threading techniques. Male grooming and ladies’ eyebrow shaping.

Men’s Grooming

A one-day course covering different aspects of men’s grooming: long, medium and short haircuts, clipper work, skin fades, threading and ear flaming. The course uses mannequins and live models.

Hair-up: The Basics

Learn the basic skills needed to create beautiful hair-up and long dressed hairstyles. A one-day course covering preparation, securing, dressing and finishing.

Dressing Hair: Core Skills

Get back to basics with this one-day course that covers all the core skills used in dressing hair in a modern or vintage style. The course covers setting, curling, blow drying, dressing and finishing.

Style Basics

This course covers blow-drying, flat wrapping, leafing and bevelling, round brush finish and polish. This is a one-day course completed on mannequins.

Upgrade your Sink to a Spa

A half-course on how to shampoo, massage and provide a treatment and
hand & arm massage, using live models.
