Gary Young (SRSH)(Master Craftsman)

On leaving school in 1983 I joined a local salon in Eastbourne on a three-year apprenticeship going day release to college on my day off.
I achieved my City & Guilds hairdressing with a distinction.

I stayed on at college another two years for advanced hairdressing, theatrical make-up, and manicuring and basic beauty all on a day release basis while working at the salon.
After leaving my first salon I worked freelance for the next three years doing Hairdressing and make-up, for local photographers and theatres and people on the go.

In 1990 I Joined Topknots Hair Design Ltd. During the twenty years with that company, I worked my way up through the company I joined the management team in 1993, which led to running the Heathfield salon. I took part in setting up and open the Buxted Park studio then oversaw the running of the two units.

In 2000 I joined Ian and Gaye Auburn as a Director of the studio that we opened on the Waterfront in Eastbourne, I spent 8 years building that salon up, and oversaw the sale of the Topknots company to the Great Hairdressing group and then became the operation director for that group overseeing the running of their 7 salons in Kent and Sussex.
Over the 31 years of my hairdressing career, I have attended many courses and training sessions the most relevant are, The Complete 365 Business Builder Programme, ten years of S.O.T.A / Symposiums, 365 Immersion Program. For eight years I was involved in 365 as a lecturer. Weeks advanced cutting at Vidal Sassoon’s, Advanced Hair Extensions course, First Aid with St Johns and Red Cross.

I have worked with Paul Mitchell ‘THE COLOR’ since it was launched in the U.K.
In 2004 I took my colour associate exams and passed at the level of master associate with honours.
In 2008 I became a platform artist for Paul Mitchell and now work internationally educating on all aspects of hairdressing for Paul Mitchell and Salon Success.

In October 2009 I left as a director of Topknots / Great Hairdressing and started the Grove Experience with my wife Giovanna this is a full concept Paul Mitchell experience salon in Grove Road in Eastbourne, we currently have a team of ten and are growing and going from strength to strength.

I am very proud of this new venture and the whole Grove Experience Team.
In 2014 Gary became a State Registered Senior Hairdresser.
In 2017 Gary became a Master Craftsman , State Registered.

In 2018 I was very privileged to travel to Africa with the Coco’s Foundation to help build two houses for Orphaned children many of whom have HIV. this was an emotional rollercoaster of a trip, that I loved every minute of.

I am so pleased I found this salon. I moved to Eastbourne last year and have been searching for a great hairdresser. I've had a couple of OK cuts until I visited Gary at at The Grove Experience and had a fabulous cut. I felt welcome and at ease in the salon, was treated to a lovely massage chair while I had my hair washed, and Gary was charming and clearly incredibly talented and experienced. I won't be going anywhere else.
Sally

Sally

My name is Sally and I have been hairdressing since 1985.
Even after all this time I am still passionate about my job and am constantly striving to improve and update my skills. Over the years I have attended many different courses within the industry, including the Paul Mitchell cutting system master class in July 2013, Paul Mitchell Intelligent Style look and learn the lesson, the 5 Step Plus, which is a customer service based course later on in the year.
I am originally from South East London which is where I began my hairdressing career. After qualifying as a stylist I took a couple of years out to travel living in both Oslo and Toronto which was an amazing experience. On my return to London in 1993 I was excited to resume my hairdressing career and started work at Shobiz Hair and Beauty which was considered the Premier Salon in South East London. Whilst there I worked my way up from designer to salon consultant and it was here that my passion for teaching and education grew.
In May 2006 I relocated to Eastbourne with my 3 children and joined Topknots in Sovereign Harbour. I worked here for 3 years then in January 2010 I was given the exciting opportunity to join The Grove Experience as an educator and Master Associate. Since joining I have achieved my A1 qualification which allows me to assess our NVQ candidates within the salon. I have also completed a preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector diploma at Sussex Downs College which has helped me to plan and deliver lessons of a higher quality to our NVQ students. My goal for the future is to expand the training and become a teaching academy, offering courses on all aspects of hairdressing at all levels.
I feel privileged to work in a fantastic salon with such a fun, creative team and I thank Gary and Giovanna for giving me the opportunity to realise my dream.

I am the head of education at the Experience Education Academy, where I oversee the general running of the academy the other educators and all dealings with are training partners and Cheynes education.

Erin

Hi, I’m Erin.
I joined the Grove Experience team in January 2012 after completing my NVQ level two hairdressing Qualification at Lewes college.
I wanted to gain more experience in a salon and complete my NVQ level three qualification.
I graduated in March 2013 after completing my Grove Experience In-house training program and then completed my NVQ level 3 qualification in March 2014.
Since working at the Grove Experience I have been on Seven Paul Mitchell workshops where I have learnt different techniques in Cutting, Colouring and styling. Cutting is the area of hairdressing that I enjoy the most.
I also had the opportunity to be a model for Paul Mitchell at Salon International, which is a trade show for hairdressers in London. And was very excited to have Stephanie Kocielski Color my hair. She is a world Famous hairdresser at the top of the hairdressing industry. My hair was then cut by Gary Young Who owns the Grove Experience and works as a Paul Mitchell Platform artist at these events.
Erin HaircutIn 2018 I completed my teaching qualification and now work in the Experience Education Academy, educating the academy students in all aspects of hairdressing, teaching has become a great passion of mine and I love to pass skills on to the next generation.

I have recently moved into my own home in Eastbourne and now live a short walk from the salon.

A Testimonial from Erin's guests: “Thank you, Erin, for all the time and attention you gave me when I came to the salon for the first time a couple of weeks ago. After trying other hairdressers in the town and being very disappointed (the hairdresser not listening to what I needed), I was so impressed with how you understood what I wanted. The colour you chose was spot-on and it has dramatically evened out my hair (and eliminated the grey!). Thank you again and hope to see you soon for my next trim and root touch-up! ”

Aimee Moon

Aimee2Hi my name is Aimee I started my professional career after leaving school. For me, hairdressing has always been about giving people confidence alongside a warm and professional approach. After finishing my Level 2 I went on to complete my advanced levels which gave me the skills to start elegant styling, gents cutting and advanced styling. The reason I got into hairdressing is that as a teenager I was always experimenting with my hair, from cuts to colours it was always different and I found this gave me confidence. I loved going to my local salon and chatting with my hairdresser about all the latest trends and loved how great I would feel when I left, I knew I wanted to make someone else feel like that too and that’s what started me on this path.Aimee 2016 My favourite aspect of hairdressing is colouring and I enjoy advising clients who wish to experiment with their hair colour. I love creating styles with avant-garde colour and find inspiration in the world around me, from galaxy inspired red to black ombre to more subtle root tints. Letting my imagination run wild is one of the best parts of my job! Click here to view Aimee’s Pinterest page FollowAimee
Was great at the Grove. Aimee cut my hair and did a wonderful job. Weeks later and hair just falls into place. Comfortable massage chairs and a decent coffee, lovely.
